airports in lower saxony Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen) is one of Germany's 16 federal states and has 7.9m inhabitants. The capital city is the City of Hanover (Hannover). Lower Saxony has one large airport (Hannover Langenhagen) with more than 4m PAX a year, and two smaller airports. The airport of Brunswick (Braunschweig) is mainly used as research airport, for general aviation and for dedicated Volkswagen company traffic. The airport of Lemwerder offers maintenance and repair services to the aviation industry. Besides these, there are a great number of smaller airfields, some of which are used for charter traffic.
